Love, then sadness and anger motivated me to work for animals. In the 1990s, I was in graduate school and, believe it or not, had never heard of “endangered species”. I was studying primate behavior and learned most primates were already on the endangered species list. I was so sad that humans were capable of such harms (sounds so naïve now…). I was thrilled to start teaching for HSU, to work with other faculty and amazing students to create a healthier and safer world for animals and the natural world, and in turn for the world’s children. Education is power.
