Shelter Management Training Workshops

Humane Society University School of Continuing Education is pleased to announce the offering of onsite Shelter Management Training Workshops. Animal shelter training classes include:

  • Training and Developing Shelter Workforce – using job descriptions managers will learn how to develop employment training programs. Participants will learn how to write training programs for immediate implementation.
  • Performance Appraisal – managers will learn how to manage their employees in relation to organizational strategies. This workshop focuses on training managers in the use of assessment of competencies, training and development planning which are crucial elements in having successful overall employee performance evaluation.
  • Strategic Planning and Board Development – in today's nonprofit environment, boards must be prepared to lead initiatives that will keep the organization viable or propel it to the next level. These changes might include altering the mission, enlarging the area of service, merging with a like organization, building coalitions, rebuilding the board, or changing the board structure. This workshop defines what is needed for leadership, how to initiate a program change within the organization and offers suggestions for participants in determining how to identify champions and how to engage them in the process.
  • Developing Competitive Shelter Compensation and Benefits Program – managers will explore strategies for establishing and managing a compensation program that is based on objectives and quantifiable criteria. These strategies will include aligning employees’ behavior to meeting the objectives of the organization.
  • Negotiation Skills and Techniques – managers will learn how to take a realistic approach to the negotiating process, and begin to implement established operational actions. Ultimately, managers will begin substantially to increase the probability of acquiring substantive gains, as well as fostering a productive relationship with the other party.
  • Succession Planning – managers will learn how to effectively designed internal strategies to ensure the continued effective performance of an organization, division, department, or work group by making provision for the development, replacement, and strategic application of key people over time.
  • Customer Service – managers will learn how to empower their employees with techniques to create lasting customer satisfaction. This workshop will show managers how internal teamwork can increase the ability of organizations to work collectively towards stronger customer relationships by being proactive than reactive.
