General Questions

I am new to online learning. How can I quickly become familiar with using ANGEL?

Are the online courses available for Mac users? Is any special software required?

Yes, the online courses are available for Mac OS X users. See the following list of requirements to use ANGEL (note that all of the following downloads are free)

ANGEL Requirements for Mac Users:

  1. Use the FireFox Browser http://www.firefox.com
  2. Browser Setup:
    • Must allow cookies
      Select Firefox > Preferences > Privacy> Cookies
      Make sure the checkbox to accept cookies is checked.
    • Must allow Java and JavaScript
      From the main menu Select Firefox > Preferences > Web Features
      Make sure Java is checked.
    • Must allow pop ups
      From the main menu, Select Firefox > Preferences > Web Features
      Either uncheck pop-up blockers, or add ANGEL (mdc.angellearning.com) to the allowed sites.
  3. Before accessing ANGEL, please have the latest Java installed on your Mac: http://www.java.com
  4. Before accessing ANGEL, please install this plug-in on your Mac: Java Embedding Plugin for MacOSX

What are the internet browsers that will work with ANGEL?

Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or higher. Click here to download.
Additionally, there are a few settings that must be configured within Firefox to enable all functionality within ANGEL:

Internet Explorer 7 or higher. Click here to download.

ANGEL is not guaranteed to work with other web browsers. Neither ANGEL nor HSU will troubleshoot issues within unsupported web browsers.

Sometimes I find a link that doesn't work or a photo that doesn't load. What should I do?

Report the issue to the course's instructor via email or course mail. If the course does not have an instructor, report the issue to hsuonline@hsus.org

If I have a problem after normal business hours (Monday to Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Eastern time, not including holidays), is there someone who can help me?

HSU does not offer after hours technical support. There are several ANGEL user manuals available to download here. If they do not help resolve the problem, please report the issue to hsuonline@hsus.org and someone will get back to you.

How can I print course materials?

Open the Course Material you want to print and click the "print" link in the item's toolbar:

Why does my account become deactivated if I don't use it for a couple months?

Our license with ANGEL limits our total number of active accounts. To stay within this quota, we must deactivate accounts that have had no activity for several months. If you find that your account has become unavailable, simply email us at hsuonline@hsus.org to have it restored.

Discussion Forum Questions

How can I read responses to my posts?

Click the "+" link to the left of "Post Title" to show all replies to all posts within the Discussion Forum.
Alternately, click the "+" link to the left of your post to show all replies to that post.

How do I make the reply screen larger so that I can see my entire reply as I compose it?

There are two methods by which the text area can be made larger:

  1. Increase the size of your browser window. This can be done by clicking the maximize button in the upper-right hand corner of your web browser.
  2. Minimize the text area's toolbar by pressing the upward-pointing black triangle on the left side of the toolbar. See the image below:

How can I print all Discussion Forum posts?

  1. Open a Discussion Forum
  2. Using the view dropdown menu, select Nested View

  3. Click the + sign next to "Post Title"

  4. Click the "Print" link in the Discussion Forum's tool bar

How do I upload an attachment to my discussion board post?

  1. Click the "Add a file" link below the text editor

  2. When the "Add Attachment" window opens, press the select button

  3. Use the file selection window to select a file (procedure varies by operating system)
  4. Once a file has been selected, press the upload button

Drop Box Questions

How do I upload an assignment for the course in a drop box?

  1. Open the drop box
  2. Type a title and message into the title and message text areas
  3. Click the "Attachments" button

  4. When the attachments window opens, click the "Browse" button

  5. Use the file window to select a file to upload (varies by operating system)
  6. Click the "Upload File" button

  9. If the submission is successful, you will see the following screen:

I made a mistake on an assignment I've uploaded. What should I do?

Make any necessary changes and resubmit the assignment via the drop box. Most drop boxes allow unlimited submissions and your instructor will check your most recent submission.
You may also send your instructor an email to let them know what happened.
