School of Continuing Education FAQ

General Questions

How do I get a certificate of completion for a course?

You must first complete a course with a final score of 80% or higher. Then simply email HSUonline@hsus.org, and provide your name and the title of the course. We will email your certificate as a .pdf attachment. Please allow 4 weeks for processing.

Can I take a single course that is part of a certificate program, or am I required to enroll in all courses?

You may take a single course, if you wish. In order to receive the program certificate, however, you must meet all requirements (successful completion of all required courses, with a minimum 80% final score in each course).

Will a program certificate help me get a job in the animal welfare field?

That depends upon you and your qualifications. Our certificate programs are not affiliated with any professional licensing body; instead they indicate that you have pursued continuing education through our School of Continuing Education. Furthermore, the program certificate will indicate to a potential employer that you are committed to gaining knowledge and keeping current in the field.

I am hoping to get a job in my local animal shelter. Can I take classes in the School of Continuing Education even though I do not currently work in animal welfare and protection?

By all means. Some of our courses are geared toward shelter workers, but upon request the instructor will help you adjust any shelter-specific assignments so that you can still participate. We welcome students who want to learn!
